Jessie was an 11 year old Golden Retriever who was diagnosed with a heart base tumor last November, 1998. As it was inoperable and as she was also suffering from a condition of failing kidneys, she was sent home. In addition to the above conditions, she was also very stiff. Due to the tumor in her chest, she had a great deal of trouble breathing and was coughing severely. |
| Not only was she in pain
from her bad back, but she was exhausted from all of the coughing, and her difficulty to
even breathe was draining her. Her appetite was very poor due to her ailments.
Jessie responded very nicely to acupuncture therapy, regaining her appetite, and increasing her energy level. She slowly began to want to play and get up to take part in the household activities. She became more active and alert, and could stand up for longer periods of time. Her coughing was much less, and was not so severe. Her improvements also reflected in her blood tests, which showed an improvement in her waste product levels, which is a measure of the kidney function. In summary, we were able to extend her life by more than six months of quality time with her people, and relieved her painful back as well during that period. She was a brave soul and will be sorely missed by all who were privileged to have known her. Many thanks to Dr. Laura Becker of Four Corners Veterinary Hospital in Walnut Creek for this referral. |
