MESSAGE FROM THE DOCTOR

April, 1999

This is my first attempt at a Web Page and my first message to all visitors to this Web Page. Thank you very much for your interest in the services offered by Assisi Acupuncture, Ltd.

First of all, I should explain the meaning of the name of my business. As I am based in Berkeley, California just across the Bay from San Francisco, Assisi refers to St. Francis of Assisi for which San Francisco is named. St. Francis lived in Italy in the Middle Ages and communicated with the birds and other animals. He grew up in the town of Assisi, just across the valley from the provincial capitol, Perugia.
It was at Perugia that I spent a year after graduation from veterinary school. During that year, I used to go horseback riding at Assisi and in visiting with the locals, they would speak about all of the accomplishments and teachings of St. Francis, as if he had lived amongst them only yesterday.
From time to time, I'll be updating this Message and telling you other information. Recently, I just returned from Boulder, Colorado where I attended a course on Chinese herbology for veterinarians. This was put on by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (I.V.A.S.). I will write more about that on a section regarding Chinese Herbology.
During the months of April, May and early June, I shall be in China to help the Chinese veterinarians.

This has been a personal project of mine following the period that I spent volunteering with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in China during 1994-1996. There is a real need for further services to improve the veterinary care in China for small animals.

Sincerely yours,
Ann-si Li, DVM
